Welcome to Ms. Walsh's Classroom.png

Hello!

My name is Taylor Walsh (Ms. Walsh)

I'm an OCT and BC certified teacher currently residing and teaching in Prince George, British Columbia. Although I was born in Victoria, British Columbia, I grew up in Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines, Ontario. I am the eldest of three children, though my two younger twin brothers (Hayden and Darren) are only 15 months younger than I. My early schooling occurred within the Niagara Catholic District School Board, where I attended Catholic elementary and high schools. In 2013, I graduated as an honours student from Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School and began my university career by attending both Wilfrid Laurier and Nipissing University (the Schulich School of Education). After five years of hard work, I graduated from both universities with an Honours BA in Society, Culture and the Environment, in addition to a BEd from Nipissing focused in Junior/Intermediate divisions (grades 4-10 in Ontario) with "teachables" in Social Studies, Mathematics, and History.

Following graduation in 2018, I moved to Prince George, British Columbia with my common-law spouse Josh, and have since been a full time teacher with SD57 since September of that year. I began my career at Buckhorn Elementary teaching grade 5/6 for one year. The following school year I followed my first class to the the grade 6/7 classroom, and have been teaching here since. My favourite subjects to teach are Math, Science, and Technology. I also thoroughly enjoy exploring novel studies with my students, especially when I get to share some of my favourite books and novel series such as Harry Potter, The Hobbit, and The Giver.

Outside of academics I enjoy opportunities where I can have fun with my students, whether that's from gamification of lessons and review to celebrating holidays and special occasions (where I may or may not be known to be a little "extra" at times). Some of these times include when I plan our school's annual Haunted Halloween Carnival and when I host themed "Grads" at the end of the year for my grade 7 students. I also enjoy teaching POUND - a type of exercise that incorporates music (rhythm and drumming specifically) with fitness in a fun and creative way. You can find some examples of POUND fitness routines that I have done with my students in the past on my YouTube channel, pinned here on this webpage.

In October of 2020, April of 2021, and September of 2023, I also became a proud dog mom to my three Frenchtons (French bulldog/Boston Terrier mix) Flynn, Theo, and River; who I love more than anything else in the world. I'm also a huge Disney and Harry Potter fan who, in my spare time, enjoys reading a good book (particularly fantasy or dystopian fiction), playing a variety of video games, watching TV, and playing the flute. Since moving to Prince George, I have also loved getting to explore the Rocky Mountains and travel to Jasper and Banff at least once per year to hike, white water raft, and enjoy the scenery.
